The Missing Thursday

August 12, 2010 did not exist for me. Well it did for about 5 minutes in Tokyo, but in all reality I just missed Thursday. I loved my 5 minutes in Tokyo. Fortunately it was only 5 minutes and I didn't get stuck there for 3 days. I loved the anime advertisements and chirping little Asian voices giving me directions as I ran for my connecting flight. Jo San. Konnichiwa. The Japanese are so kind and helpful. As are Singaporeans. Ross the concierge is particularly accommodating. But before any of that, it was the flight attendants that were oh so ready to lend a hand.

It takes 24+ hours start to finish when traveling from Salt Lake to Singapore. That is a long time, but when you're flying business class it isn't quite so long. I LOVE business class. I probably told mother this 100 times. But I do love it. I really do. Business class is wonderful for several reasons.

1. They give you a big comfy pillow and blanket and the seats recline pretty much flat so sleeping is fairly comfortable.
2. They serve you real meals, not just a dinky bag of peanuts.
3. They constantly check on you and make sure you have enough to eat and drink and that you're comfortable.
5. They give you a little bag of goodies that comes in handy when you've been on a plane for 10 hours and desperately want to brush your teeth.
6. Mostly I love that your get your own little entertainment system equipped with legit headphones that block out all sounds except for your movie. Meaning you don't have to hear the Asian lady to your left who is snoring as loud as your grandpa with a cold.

I lucked out flying business class and I'm possibly ruined forever. Although business class does have one major flaw. The flight attendants constantly bring you copious amounts of water and juice and as soon as you finish it they bring you more. So obviously you have to drink that one. And then the one after that. You keep drinking and they keep bringing you more until your bladder is full to bursting and you're forced to use the 1' x 1' airplane restroom that is barely big enough to stand in. It is a engineering marvel that they managed to fit a toilet and sink in that small of space.

Thus far my Asian adventure has been just that. An adventure. I love Singapore! The trip is off to a great start and I haven't even begun to tell about my night at the Hotel Supreme or my upgrade to the Four seasons. Or my hike to Fort Canning. Or mastering the subway. So much more happens than I can say here. Now I'm off to Little India.
